Delete files forever

I have a very confidential file on my hard drive, which I don’t want to share with anyone. I want to delete it permanently, without leaving any chances of it being recovered. Apart from this confidential file, I have other important stuff which I do not want to lose. Is there a way to securely delete this file without wiping the whole drive? Please suggest.

Your hard drive stores every file you  delete, until the disk space occupied by it  is not overwritten. Most people are of the fallacy, that once they delete files and empty the Recycle Bin, the deleted files are completely wiped out from their PC. It’s not true. When you delete files from a drive on your PC,  the contents of these files are not wiped out from the drive , but only the ‘references’ to these files, from files system,  is deleted. The contents of all deleted files remain on the disk, and can be easily restored using any recovery utility.

Everything from your private documents, movies, music you downloaded and emails – all information can be easily recovered. Furthermore, deleted files are easily recoverable even if you have formatted your hard drive. Hence  your confidential information might be at risk, even after deletion.
