Microsoft Outlook 2000 stores .pst files in ANSI (American National Standards Institute) format, that have a maximum size limit of 2 GB. Whenever a .pst file reaches or exceeds the 2 GB size limit, it becomes corrupted, and it becomes impossible to access all your Outlook data.

Removing  bulk of data from the .pst file, and compacting it is possible, but it cannot be of much help, under the given circumstances.Although, Microsoft Outlook provides an Inbox Repair tool,it’s use too, might not be the best solution to the given problem.

Follow the steps given below, to recover your e-mails from the corrupted .pst file.

1.Launch the application, either by double clicking the desktop shortcut, or by selecting the icon from the Programs List in the Start Menu.The Main window pops up, as shown in Figure a.

2.Click on  the Select PST (.pst) option, and click on the Browse button, to select the .pst file which needs to be repaired, as shown in Figure b.

3. Once you select the .pst file that needs to be recovered, click on the Recover & Save button in the toolbar.

4. As you click the Recover & Save button, a window to select the scan type and the destination drive to save the recovered .pst file, is displayed, as shown in Figure c.

5. REMO Recover Outlook (pst) software provides two scan types,

• Normal Scan
• Smart Scan

Normal Scan is the recommended one. Smart Scan should be performed only when the emails you are looking for are not found after performing Normal Scan.Smart Scan rigorously searches selected .pst file for lost / deleted e-mails. During this search, if the program finds an attachment whose parent information is missing, it will be displayed in a new folder by name Orphaned Attachment.

Select Normal scan and provide the destination drive where you want to save the repaired .pst file, and click the OK button.

The application uses advanced scanning technique to locate e-mails in the selected .pst file and restores them into a new .pst file in the selected destination drive. All the recovered e-mails would be displayed in the application window, in their respective folders. The recovered  .pst file is similar to the original .pst file.

There are two ways to access the recovered emails:

• Import: Once repair process is complete and data is restored into a new .pst file, the new .pst file can be imported to Microsoft Outlook using the Import and Export option present in Microsoft Outlook.

• Preview: You can preview the recovered e-mails by clicking on the e-mails loaded in the  main window of the application. The software shows the preview of the selected .pst file, in the  main window of the application.
