Microsoft Outlook 2000 stores .pst files in ANSI (American National Standards Institute) format, that have a maximum size limit of 2 GB. Whenever a .pst file reaches or exceeds the 2 GB size limit, it becomes corrupted, and it becomes impossible to access all your Outlook data.

Removing  bulk of data from the .pst file, and compacting it is possible, but it cannot be of much help, under the given circumstances. Although, Microsoft Outlook provides an Inbox Repair tool, it’s use too, might not be the best solution to the given problem.

Follow the steps given below, to recover Outlook mails from the corrupted .pst file.

1. Download and install the free trial version of Remo Repair Outlook PST to the computer where you need to repair corrupt PST file
2. Double click the shortcut icon present on the desktop or use Start>Program files option to launch the software
3. The main screen is displayed as shown in Figure 1
4. In the main screen, there are three options, namely, "Open PST File", "Find PST File" and "Select Outlook Profile"
5. f you know the location of  your PST file you can select "Open PST File" option,
6. If you are not sure about the location of your PST file, you can use the "Find PST File" option to search for the PST file
7. If you want to repair a damaged PST file related to a particular Outlook profile, select the option "Select Outlook Profile"
8. Based on the above selected option
9. Open PST File: If this option is selected, click on "Browse" button to open the particular PST file, which you need to fix corrupt pst file as shown in Figure 2
10. Find PST File: After selecting this option, choose the logical drive from which you need to find the PST file that has to be repaired as shown in Figure 3
11. Select Outlook Profile: If you select this option, all the PST files associated with the relevant Outlook profiles will be displayed as shown in Figure 4
12. After selecting the PST file that is to be repaired click on "Next"
13. You can either select "Normal Scan" or "Smart Scan" option for scanning the PST file as shown in Figure 5
14. After selecting the appropriate option, click on the "Browse" button to select a destination location onto which you want to save your repaired PST file as shown in Figure 5
15. After you have selected the destination, click "Repair" to start the scanning the PST file as shown in Figure 5
16. After completing the scanning process, you can view the recovered emails and other Outlook data in an Outlook styled browser as shown in Figure 6
17. Once you are completely satisfied with the recovery results, you can activate the product by entering the product key
18. Once the software is activated you have to rescan the PST file to recover deleted emails
19. Later, you can import the newly created PST file in to Microsoft Outlook, and access your emails as before
