Now-a-days the most popular e-mail client being used is Microsoft Outlook. PST files are the primary file extension used in Outlook. In Microsoft Outlook 97, 98, 2000 & 2002, PST files are formatted in ANSI (American National Standards Institute) format, and the size limit of the Personal Storage Folders, or .pst files is limited to 2GB.
What happens, if a .pst file exceeds the file size limit of 2GB?

Steps to repair a corrupt 2GB.pst file:
Use the simple steps given below,to repair the .pst file, and recover all your emails.
- Launch the application, either by double clicking the desktop icon, or by selecting the icon from the Programs list in the Start menu.The Main window pops up, as shown in Figure a.

- Click on the Select PST (.pst) button in the the toolbar Menu, or select the option from the File menu.
- As you click the Select PST (.pst) button, a new window, to browse for the .pst file to be recovered is displayed, as shown in Figure b. Select the .pst file you wish to recover and click on the Open button.

- Once you select the .pst file that has to be repaired, click on the Recover & Save button, present in the toolbar. As soon as you click the Recover & Save button, a window to select the scan type, and the destination drive to save the recovered .pst file is displayed, as shown in Figure c.

The software provides two scan types:
- Normal Scan
- Smart Scan
Normal Scan is the recommended one. Smart Scan should be used only when the emails you are looking for are not found after using the Normal Scan option. The Smart Scan option, will rigorously search the selected .pst file, for lost / deleted e-mails. During this search, if the software finds an attachment, whose parent information is missing, then it will be displayed in a new folder by name “Orphaned Attachment“.
- Select the Normal scan option, and click on the Browse button, to select a destination drive, to save your repaired .pst file, and click on the OK button.
- Once you click the OK button, the application uses advanced scanning techniques to locate e-mails in the selected .pst file, and restores them into a new .pst file in the selected destination drive. The recovered .pst file is similar to the original .pst file. During recovery, all the recovered e-mails are loaded in the application main window.
There are two ways to access the recovered emails:
- Import: Once the recovery process is complete, and the data is restored into the new .pst file, the new .pst file can be imported to Microsoft Outlook using the Import and Export option present in Microsoft Outlook.
- Preview: You can preview the recovered e-mails, by clicking on the e-mails, loaded in the Main window of the application. The software displays the preview of the selected e-mail, in the Main window of the application.
