Mac Recovery

We often face situations, when we end up losing the volumes on our Mac machines. This can happen due to various reasons, some of which are listed below,

  • Unfamiliarity with usage of Mac disk utility, which might result in deletion of files and reformatting of needed volumes.
  • Having similar storage media connected a single Mac machine, which might lead to wrong drive selection for partitioning.
  • Loss of volumes due to malware, virus attacks, sabotage, power surge etc.

These account for only few of the various reasons, which lead to loss of partitions, hence making the complete Mac machine inaccessible.

Important:

It is suggested that you install the software on another PC, before proceeding with the subsequent steps of Mac recovery. After installing the software on another PC, connect the hard drive as a slave drive to that PC. Once you are done with that, you can proceed with the data recovery, using the simple steps given in the subsequent pages.

Steps to Mac recovery using REMO Recover (Mac) Pro Edition software

Step 1: Launch REMO Recover (Mac) Pro Edition software by selecting it from the application folder. The main window pops up as shown in Figure a.

Step 2: The drives and the different volumes connected to the system are displayed as shown in Figure b. Select the drive from which you want to recover the lost volumes, and click the Recover button.

Step 3: As soon as you click the Recover button, a new window to select the appropriate option, is displayed, as shown in Figure c. There are three options that are present,

  • Display default volume(s) – This displays the default volumes present on the system. You can use this option, to recover data from the existing volumes on the system.
  • Scan for volume(s) – This option displays the lost, missing or corrupted partitions. You can select this option, to search for lost volumes, and recover the data from these volumes.
  • Raw Search on Physical Drive (File Recovery) – This option can be selected, to perform a sector by sector file search for recovery of lost files.

Step 4: Select the Display default volume(s) option. As soon as you click the Display default volume(s) button, a new window displays the existing volumes on the selected drive, as shown in Figure d. Select the volume from which you want to recover the data, and click the Next button.

Step 5: On clicking the Next button, a window to select the Scan Method, is displayed, as shown in Figure e. You can select from two options.

  • Standard Scan – It is a quick and time saving scanning process, which can be used, if there is no significant corruption in the file system. It can be used, when the logical volume fails to mount.
  • Advanced Scan – It is a detailed and time consuming process, which conducts a rigorous search for all the lost data.

Select the Standard Scan option.

Step 6: As soon as you click the Standard Scan option, the software starts scanning the selected drive, for the lost data, and lists all the found files and folders, as shown in Figure f.

Step 7: Once the files have been listed in the tree format, the next step is to save the data onto a safe location. Select the files you want to save, or click on the Root folder to select all the files, and click the Save button.

As soon as you click the Save button, a window to select the destination drive, to save the data, is displayed, as shown in Figure f. Select the destination drive, where you want to save the data, and click the Save button.

As soon as you click the Save button, the selected data is saved onto the selected destination drive. You can now access the recovered files as before.
