Scenarios in which Microsoft Outlook PST file might get Corrupted

Corruption of PST file due to oversize – PST files used in earlier versions of Outlook (for e.g. Outlook 2000) have a limitation of size. The PST file in these versions should not exceed the 2GB size limit, as this may lead to corruption. This might happen when you do not delete the unwanted emails from the Inbox or other Outlook folders.

PST file getting corrupted due to errors during compacting – You might compact your PST file when you feel that it is large in size. Errors during the compacting process might result in the PST file getting corrupted leading to loss of emails and other important PST components

Anti-virus scanning leading to PST file corruption – You might be using an anti-virus that scans both incoming and outgoing emails and ensures safety of your computer. However, this anti-virus software might interfere with the receiving and sending process leading to corruption of the PST file

PST file corrupted due to usage over network – There are various scenarios in which a single PST file is shared over a network by many users, especially in case of offices. How to Repair PST Files?

Step 1: Download and install free demo version of Remo Repair Outlook (pst) tool to the computer

Step 2: Double-click the desktop icon or use the Start Menu > Programs to launch the PST Repair software

Step 3: The main screen now displays three options that are available namely, "Open PST File", "Find PST File" and "Select Outlook Profile" from the main screen as shown in Figure 1

• If you know the location of  your PST file, you can select the "Open PST File" option
• If you are not sure about where your PST file is located then select "Find PST File" option
• Select "Select Outlook Profile" option If you want to repair PST file from Outlook based on different Outlook profiles

Step 4: Based on the option that you selected in the previous step

• Open PST File:  If you have selected this option, click on the "Browse" button to browse and select the particular PST file, which you need to repair as shown in Figure 2
• Find PST File: If you have selected this option, then choose the logical drive on which you need to repair PST from Outlook and start the scanning process as shown in Figure 3
• Select Outlook Profile: If you have selected this option, then all the PST files associated with their respective Outlook profiles will be displayed as shown in Figure 4

Step 5: After selecting the PST file that is to be repaired click "Next"

Step 6: Select the "Normal Scan" option and the destination location where you want to save the recovered PST file as shown in Figure 5

Step 7: Click on the "Repair" button to start the scanning process as shown in Figure 5

Step 8: Once the scanning process has been completed, you can view the recovered emails and other Outlook data with their related attributes as shown in Figure 6

Step 9: If you are satisfied with the recovery results, you can activate the full version the software

Note: If Outlook PST file repair is not possible by using the "Normal scan" option, you can use the "Smart scan" option to repair the PST file and recover the deleted / lost emails from the PST file
