Common scenarios in which files get deleted from the External hard drive

Accidental deletion of files – You might accidentally delete a file from your external hard drive leading to loss of data. When a file is deleted from the external hard drive it bypasses the Recycle Bin on Windows and Trash on Mac, unlike files on the fixed hard drive that go to the Recycle Bin when they are deleted

Files deleted using combination keys – Files can also be deleted using the Shift + Delete keys combination on Windows and Command + Delete keys combination on Mac.

Files deleted from Windows Command prompt – Files can also be deleted on Windows using the "del" command from Windows command prompt
