Data loss in an external hard drive, is as common as it is in the internal hard drive, as the components that form both the internal, and the external hard drives, are similar in nature.It is this very reason, that makes the data recovery process, similar in both the cases.

However, the effective recovery of deleted files depends on the amount of data that has been written onto the external hard drive after deletion. If any new data has been saved or written onto the external hard drive, probability of those deleted files being overwritten, increases drastically.

Important: Download and install REMO Recover (Windows) Basic Edition software to any another healthy computer.Connect the  Seagate 500GB external hard drive  as a slave to this machine, using a USB cable, and proceed with the recovery process.

Follow the steps given below, to recover deleted files from the Seagate 500GB external hard drive:

Step 1: Run REMO Recover (Windows) Basic Edition software, either by double clicking the desktop shortcut, or by selecting the icon from the Programs list in the Start Menu.

The Main window pops up, as shown in Figure a.

Step 2: Click on the Recover Deleted Data option.A window with a list of logical drives detected in the PC, is displayed, as shown in Figure b. Select the logical drive which contains the deleted data, and click  on the Next button.

Note: If the logical drive you are looking for, is not displayed in the list of logical drives, then use the Search lost partitions option to find the lost partition (logical drive), and proceed with recovery process.

Step 3: As you click the Next button, the application scans the selected drive for deleted data and lists all the found files and folders in a tree format under Root folder, as shown in Figure c.

Step 4: Select the data you wish to recover, or click on Root folder to select all the found data and click the Save button. A window to select destination drive, to restore recovered data is displayed as shown in Figure d.

Select the destination drive, and specify the file types you wish to ignore (file filter) while saving. If you want the data to be restored in a compressed form, select the Compress Data option,  and click on the OK button.

The program starts saving the data to selected destination drive. All the data will be restored into a new folder by name “UndeleteX” in the  selected destination drive. After the saving process is complete, a message pops up intimating the same. You can now access your recovered files as before.
