Common causes of hard drive failure

Corrupt MBR: Master Boot Record (MBR), which helps in booting Windows operating system. Any corruption to MBR may result in a hard drive crash.

Partition corruption: Hard drive may fail due to partition information corruption, while trying to make dual /multi OS boot installation.

Using third party utility / programs: Partition resizing or trying to divide the existing partition using third party tools may result in data loss.

Virus: Viruses can affect important system files because of which, the hard drive fails to boot.

Bad sectors: Ageing hard drive is susceptible to bad sectors, which will result in data loss

Improper shutdown: Abrupt system shut down or power surge may result in corruption of system files leading to hard drive crash
