File Shredder

When a file is deleted using the (SHIFT+ Delete) key combination or, by emptying the Recycle Bin, it is not permanently deleted from the disk space. Once a file is deleted, the Operating system marks the space occupied by the file as free space, and hence, the next file which is saved onto the disk, may overwrite the contents of the deleted file.

When a file is deleted, the actual contents of the file are not deleted, but, the file table entry of that file is deleted, making the file inaccessible. In reality, all the contents of the file remain on the drive, until they are overwritten by new data. This increases the chances of  the deleted file being recovered, even after it has been deleted from the Recycle Bin.

The serious problem originates, while selling or disposing off a PC. The hard drives are usually formatted with a view that they can be used further.Although the drive is formatted, the sensitive data consisting of files and folders still exist on the drive, and can  be recovered using specialized recovery software.

In case of both, home and business users, there might be private and confidential data present on your hard drive, which you do not want anyone to access. This data is under high risk of being misused, if not dealt with in the appropriate manner. It is henceforth mandatory to make sure, that, all the data on your hard drive is wiped out, before you sell, or dispose off your PC.

At this point, a question might arise in your mind, as to how we can delete a file beyond recovery, and also remove a deleted file permanently from the hard drive, when Windows itself, is not deleting these files permanently?

In order to shred data permanently from your system, you require a software, that is capable of overwriting the files with random series of binary data, multiple number of times.
