Erase DVD/BD data using disc cleanup tool

In this fast computing world, having a regular backup of all your important data is very essential, as this can save you from lot of troubles when your hard disk drive goes corrupt or if you have lost data. One can easily accomplish such backup task with the help of optical disks such as CD’s, DVDS or even Blue Ray (BD) discs. There are numerous types of optical disks and one widely used type is DVD-RW (DVD rewritable)

DVD or BD rewritable discs allow users to write data and then erase them so that it can be used to store new data. These types of discs are identified as BD-RW or DVD-RW discs and the data stored on a re-writable disc can be erased using few useful procedures. To erase data on a BD / DVD-RW disc, follow the below steps.

On Windows XP:

  • Insert the DVD or BD Disc which you want to erase
  • Navigate to “My Computer”
  • Right click on the drive which you want to erase and select “Open”
  • Look for the "Erase this DVD-RW" option under the "CD Writing Tasks" menu that appears and click it
  • Click "Next" when the "Welcome to the CD Writing Wizard" window appears
  • At last, a confirmation message appears when the DVD or BD disc has been fully erased

On Windows Vista, 7 and 8:

  • Insert the DVD or BD Disc in your optical drive
  • Go to “Start” and then “My Computer”
  • Right click on the BD \ DVD-RW Drive and click on “Erase this disc” option
  • Click “Next” to erase the data and once the data is erased, the disc can then be used to store more files

The only problem with the above mentioned techniques is that, if the “Erase this disc” option is listed, then DVD / BD disc can be erased and used again. However, if the option is not available, the disc cannot be erased. Sometimes this problem occurs if your computer has hardware issue. In case if you want to erase your DVD / BD rewritable disc and don’t find the above mentioned procedure useful, then you can go for Remo MORE software. This application helps you to erase rewritable DVD or BD disc without any hassle. In addition to this, you can also use the application to burn your data to disc and as well as to create an ISO image of your important data. And this software comes free of cost.
