Does the Windows Free edition works similar to the paid edition?

Yes, the Remo Recover Windows Free Edition software works similar to the purchased version. The only limitation is you could save up to 1 GB of recovered data in the Free Edition software. In order to save more than 1 GB of data you need to upgrade the software.
