Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows is a line of graphical operating system, programmed in C, C++ and assembly language. MS Windows is used on approximately 90 percent of personal computers around the world, which clearly dominates all the other operating systems in the run.

 Microsoft Windows operating system was introduced on November 20, 1985 as Microsoft Windows 1.0. The most recent Windows client version is Microsoft Windows 7, mobile version is Windows Phone 7.5 and server version is Windows server 2008 R2.

Windows CE

Windows Embedded Compact was released on 16 November 1996 for embedded systems like PDAs, smartphones and other memory constrained devices. using the concepts and architecture of Windows CE was built from the scratch. Windows CE is a 32-bit architecture with multitasking and threading features.

Security

  • With Windows operating system users can create several profiles on a same computer. Windows NT and its successors were designed keeping in mind multi-user security as well as user security over the network.
  • Microsoft releases Windows Updates which have security patches. These updates can be downloaded and updated automatically.
  • The newer versions of Windows NT implements memory protection hence restricting and limiting user access. Creating user-transparent encryption of confidential files and folders is possible using EFS option.
