A smartphone is a cell phone built on a mobile operating system, with more superior computing ability and connectivity that a feature cell phone. It comprises of many features like Internet access, text messaging and multimedia potential with typical telephone service. Smartphone, first introduced in 1992 as a concept phone from IBM, typically offer users a wide range of features and productivity tools. After November 2010, many most popular Smartphone models came into market, such as iPhone, Blackberry, and Android etc. All brands of Smartphone differ in style and functionality but they share same common characteristics.

The first smartphone is released into the market that combines the functionalities of PDA with a mobile phone. Later released phones came with added functionality of portable media player, pocket video cameras, low-end compact digital camera and GPS navigation units to form one multi use device. Nowadays, smart phones include many-featured functionality such as high-resolution touch screen and high-speed data access is provided by Wi-Fi and mobile broadband.

Operating System in SmartPhones

Android: Android is an open source platform founded in October 2003 by Andy Rubin. In October 2008, HTC Dream is the first phone to use Android and was branded for distribution by T-Mobile as the G1. This phone software suite consists of integration with Google’s proprietary applications, such as Calendar, Maps, and Gmail and a full HTML web browser.

iOS: iPhone introduced by Apple Inc in 2007, it’s the first cell phone to use a multi-touch interface and is famous for use of a large touch screen for direct finger input instead of using stylus keypad as typical for Smartphone at the time.

BlackBerry: BlackBerry phone first released by RIM in 1999 and provide secure email push communication on wireless devices. This phone also includes services such as BlackeBerry Messenger and the integration of all communication into a single inbox allowed users to create, access, share and act upon information instantly.

Bada: On November, Samsung was first announced a smartphone with Bada operation system. The Samsung Wave S8500 was the first Bada based phone, released on June 1, 2010, which sold one million cell phones in its first 4 weeks on the market.
