How to Use Remo Free Disk Clone Software?

Disk Cloning - Copy Drive (Drive to Drive)

Creates an exact copy of your source disk onto another disk. The destination becomes a duplicate of the original - often including partitions, files, and (for system disks) bootability.

Best for

1. Upgrading from HDD to SSD.

2. Replacing a failing disk.

3. Creating a bootable duplicate disk.

Before you start

1. The destination disk will be overwritten if data exists on it.

2. Destination capacity should be equal to or larger than the used space on the source.

3. Prefer a direct SATA/NVMe connection for best speed and stability.

Steps

After cloning a system disk

1. Shut down the PC after the clone completes.

2. Replace the old disk with the cloned disk, or change boot order to boot from the new disk.

If both disks remain connected, Windows might boot from the old disk - disconnect the old disk for the first boot test.

Disk Imaging - Create Drive Image (Drive to Image File)

Creates a full backup snapshot of a drive and saves it as an image file. Use this to keep restore points and store backups on external storage.

Best for

1. Creating full backup snapshots.

2. Keeping restore points before major changes.

3. Storing backups on external drives.

Steps

1. Open Remo Free Disk Clone and click Create Drive Image.

2. Select the Source Drive (or partitions, if supported).

3. Choose the destination folder for the image file (external drive recommended).

4. Name the image file (example: OfficePC_SystemBackup_2026-02-26.img).

5. Select options if available (compression, split image, verify after creation).

6. Click Start and wait for completion.

NOTE: Keep at least one backup image on an external drive and unplug it when not in use (helps protect against ransomware).

Image Restore - Restore Drive Image (Image File to Drive)

Restores a previously created image file back onto a physical disk, rebuilding partitions and data from that snapshot. This is used for recovery, rollback, or deploying an image to a replacement drive.

WARNING: Restore overwrites the destination disk. Confirm you selected the correct destination disk before you start.

Steps

1. Open Remo Free Disk Clone and click Restore Drive Image.

2. Browse and select the image file you created earlier.

3. Select the Destination disk to restore onto (will be overwritten if any data exists on it).

4. Review the partition layout preview.

5. Select options if available (verify image before restore, restore boot records).

6. Click Restore. After completion, reboot and set the correct boot device if needed.

Common Issues

Slow performance: Use direct SATA/NVMe where possible and avoid USB hubs or unstable adapters.

Read errors during clone: Increase Retry error and allow skipping sectors if necessary (damaged areas may not copy).

System does not boot: Check BIOS/UEFI boot order and disconnect the old disk for the first boot test.
