MOV File Format: If it was not mentioned enough earlier that it is one of the most popular file formats. The reason for this is that streaming videos online is a need and norm and MOV file format makes it easier. You can also save videos, 3D, animation, VR content in a container format that can store different types of videos. MOV file format was developed by apple for their QuickTime movie player. It is compatible with both Mac and Windows. For an Apple Mac user it is a very good and safe choice but if you are going to run it out of QuickTime then it’s likely for you to run into trouble. This generally uses MPEG-4 codec for compression. MOV is known for providing better quality files, better picture quality, better ability to enhance sound while also giving better picture resolution.

MP4 File Format: Again, this is one of the most popular and commonly used file formats. But this format is based on MOV in QuickTime movie format, it was later developed by Industry Standard. Along with storing different audio and video data, subtitles and graphics it also allows for advanced content such as 3D graphics, user interactivity, and menus. It runs smoothly on most operating systems as it is mostly used to sharing videos on the net. While it uses separate compression for audio and video tracks, it generally uses MPEG-4 compression.

Conclusion: If you are using MAC then MOV would be a good option for you whereas, if you are using a non-Apple device then MP4 would be your choice. However, if you accidently or intentionally end up with a corrupted or damaged file then remember, there is a mp4 file repairing tool that can be very useful.
