Whenever you encounter a problem like this, start by examining. Sometimes, when Windows does not detect the drive, all you need to do is turn off and turn on your system. Sometimes, Windows does not see or recognize your player at all. In this case, unplug your player and try connecting it to another USB port. If it recognizes there and not in this one then, you simply have a dead USB port. After trying these two things, if nothing works, all you need to do is clean up or format your storage drive. There are several ways to clean and format your drive, one of the simplest is to use Diskpart on Windows 10.

Remember, when you go clean your storage drive, be sure to pay full attention. You do not want to erase or clean an important file that you may need later. Using diskpart on Windows 10 not only solves your problem but also erases everything you select on this drive. So, before moving forward, be sure to make a full backup of your system.

Start a command prompt as administrator:

To start the command prompt as an administrator, you must either right-click the Start button or press the Windows + X key and select Command Prompt (Admin).

Use Diskpart to clean the storage drive:

Make sure you have connected your storage device whether it is a USB flash drive or an SD card or any other storage drive.

  • To launch the diskpart tool, type the following command ‘diskpart’ in the command prompt window and press Enter.
  • Type the following command ‘list disk’ to list all available drives and press Enter.
  • Identify the drive you want to clean. Use the ‘select diskxxx’ command to select the drive and press Enter.

Make sure you select the correct drive and type the correct drive number, otherwise you will have cleaned up the important data.

  • Once you have made sure you have selected the correct drive and typed the correct drive number. You can now go ahead and type the following command “clean” the drive and press Enter.

Initializing the disk partition:

You should be able to initialize the partition and format the drive as you normally would.

  • Start by typing the following command ‘create primary primary’ and press Enter.
  • Now, type the following command ‘select partition 1’ to select the partition you just created and press Enter.
  • Now go ahead and set the active partition by typing the following command ‘active’ and press Enter.

Formatting the disc:

Now that you have finished the score, you will now initialize the formatting of the disk to complete the process.

  • Type the following command ‘FS = NTFS label = WC-Drive quick’. Be sure to replace ‘WC-Drive’ in the command with the name of the drive you wish to use. This is to format the partition using NTFS and to define a label. Do not forget to press Enter.
  • Now type the following command ‘assign letter = W’. Again, change the ‘W’ with a letter you want to use and press Enter.

Remember, you want to make sure that you clean the right disk with the right disk number. Although there may be many other tools to format a disk, you want to avoid confusion and continue with diskpart so that the process is fast and complete.
