How to Fix Error 0x8009002d When Signing in to Windows 10 Account

Although Windows allows you to have multiple accounts and login through them comfortably, there can be some situations where it poses problems. Solution 1: Restart your system

Although this sounds like a simple solution, users have reported that this method works in some cases. But please note that even if this method works, it is not permanent as you will have to restart the system each time you get the error.

Solution 2: Switch OFF sleep mode

Sleep mode is a power saving feature that allows your computer rest temporarily while keeping your applications open.

Although a useful feature, some users claim that the sleep mode is one of the factors for the error ‘0x8009002d’. To resolve this, let’s turn OFF sleep mode completely and check if the error can be resolved.

  1. Click on the Start menu and select Settings
  2. Search for Power and Sleep settings and click on it
  3. You should find 2 options here:
  • On battery power, PC goes to sleep after
  • When plugged in, PC goes to sleep after
  1. In the drop down menu for each of these above options, select This will turn OFF sleep mode completely.

Of course, you can also use the standard Power Options feature to turn OFF sleep mode. To do so, follow the steps below.

  1. Search for Power options in the Start menu and find your current plan
  2. Then click on Change Plan Settings
  3. Under Put the computer to sleep, select Never

Solution 3: Reset your password/PIN

  1. Click on the Start menu and select Settings
  2. Then click on Accounts > Sign-in options
  3. Click on Change under the Password section to change your password
  4. Choose a new password and also choose a hint question to help you recover your account in case you forget your password at a later time
  5. Once the password is reset, restart your computer and log in using the new password. This should help you resolve the error.

If you are using a PIN to login to your account, consider changing it. The steps are almost similar except that you will choose Change under the PIN section instead of the password section in Sign In options.
