Here is an informative read on what is an ISO image file and how you can open it?
What is an ISO image file?
An ISO file is also called as an ISO image. It is a single file that is a perfect representation of an entire CD, DVD or BD. The entire contents of a disc can be precisely duplicated in a single ISO file. Just like the example given earlier, this file itself is of no use unless it is opened, assembled and used.
An ISO file has a ISO file extension which contains a copy of the entire CD/DVD from which it was extracted. It basically means when you burn an ISO file to a blank disc, you’ll get the same files, folders and properties as the original disc. An ISO file is a complete copy of a CD or DVD. You can create ISO images yourself or download them from the internet. You can use ISO image in a variety of ways. The ISO file itself is a backup of disc, so you can use the ISO file if you ever lose or damage the original disc. You can also ‘mount’ the ISO, which makes it accessible as if it were a physical disc. You can install software from the disc and access its files as if it were inserted in your disc drive. ISO files can be used to install software from discs on computers that lack physical disc drives.
Now you know, what an ISO image file is. Lets’ take a read on How to open an ISO file?
How to open an ISO file?
Opening an ISO file is simple, but pay a little attention:
- Download and Install an Archive Utility:
By default, most operating systems will not know, how to handle ISO files. You will need to install an archive utility (also called a compression utility) to allow you to open ISO images. The simplest for this purpose is WinRAR, which is a licensed shareware. You can begin by downloading WinRAR. You can download it from any trustworthy site.
Double-click on the WinRAR setup icon to begin the installation process. During the installation, you will see a box titled “Associate WinRAR with”. Make sure the ‘ISO’ box is checked, so that your computer will associate ISO files with WinRAR.
- Find the ISO file on your computer:
Navigate your browser to the folder containing the ISO image. The file should now have the WinRAR logo, depicting 3 stacked books, as it is associated with WinRAR.
- Open the ISO file:
Double click on the files icon to open it. WinRAR will display the contents of the ISO file in a new window. Note that altering these contents may cause the ISO image to be unusable when mapping it to a CD. If you need to use certain file inside the image, make a copy of it rather than moving it out of the image.
- Close the window when you are finished:
After viewing the image’s contents, close the window. You do not have to close WinRAR separately; it runs only when being used. Also remember, knowing how to open an ISO file will allow you to troubleshoot any problems with the disc image or locate specific data within the image.
NOTE: If you realize that your file was accidently deleted, while following these steps then you can click on simple steps of ISO recovery for further assistance.
