What’s new in Android KitKat?

Google successfully released the latest Android OS version. Thus the long awaited Android 4.4, which is nicknamed as KitKat is finally here. Even  though Google had announced the version name before, didn’t reveal more details about this new OS version. It brings all of Android's most innovative, most beautiful, and most useful features. Android KitKat mainly focuses on delivering improved multitasking, higher responsiveness to touch screen and memory management.

Improved Memory management:

Google has made many improvements in the memory management of Android 4.4 KitKat. It is actually designed in such a way that it can even run on devices with just 512 MB of RAM.  In addition, Android KitKat facilitates the smoother multi-tasking. Fragment issues that were faced in earlier versions of Android are resolved to the greater extent in Android 4.4 with the help of memory optimizations.

OK Google:

OK Google” is a coolest new feature that is introduced in Android 4.4 KitKat in order to activate the “Google Now” functionality. It is designed in integration of the Google’s voice search into the Android’s primary home screen. With this features, you no longer need to touch your screen in order to perform searches, send texts, get directions or play music. You just have to say “Ok Google” followed by a command to perform the task when you are on the home screen or have Google Now pulled up.

Immersive Display:

In the earlier versions of Android, the Android’s status bar and navigation buttons remained on the screen or can get in the way, especially when you are playing a game, reading eBooks or watching videos. Fortunately, Android 4.4 comes with a new feature called immersive mode that hides everything except the app you are using from your screen. Once you are done, you just have to swipe at the edge of the screen to bring back your status bar and navigation buttons.

Smarter Caller ID option:

Android 4.4 KitKat provides smarter caller id functionality using which you can search for your business contact information that is listed in the Google maps. This will pull all the contact information of the businesses that are nearer to your area. The Google map’s data can also be used to identify the unknown numbers by cross-checking the number with nearby businesses.


Sending and receiving SMS / MMS in Android phones is no longer required in Android 4.4 KitKat. Hangouts are now the default messaging app of KitKat for instant messaging. With the Hangouts app you never miss a message, since SMS, MMS, video calls and other conversation types are put together in a single message stream. Thus you no longer need to use several different apps just to communicate with someone. It even provides animated GIFs and location sharing through the Google maps.

Google Cloud Print:

You can now easily print your favorite photos and important documents that are stored in your phone with the support of Google Cloud Print. This functionality allows you to print all your documents either over Bluetooth or WI-FI. However, in order to use this feature your printer must be compatible with the wireless competences and must support Google Cloud Print.

Add supports Wearable Devices:

Android 4.4 KitKat supports all new types of sensors including step detectors, step counters, and geomagnetic rotation. In addition, it even extends the additional support to the fitness and other location-related apps, which you might want to include on a smartwatch or other wearable device.
