Scenarios in which RAW image files are lost / deleted

Unintentional deletion / loss of RAW image files: Human error is the most common reason for loss / deletion of RAW image files. RAW image files are deleted when you accidentally press "Delete All" button on Canon digital camera while previewing them

Formatting the memory card on Canon Camera: CR2, CRW image files may be lost when the operating system prompts for disk initialization, when you connect the memory card to the computer or when you accidentally format memory card by selecting the format card option on the Canon digital camera

Image files lost due to mishandling of Camera or memory card: Switching off the camera during the transfer of process, using the same memory card in various digital cameras or pulling out the memory card while the camera is ON may lead to loss of RAW image files

Image files lost due to memory card corruption: Ejecting the memory card form the digital camera / card reader during the copying process may result in corruption

How to Recover Photos from Canon Digital Camera?

Step 1: Plug in memory card from which you have lost / deleted RAW image files using the card reader / camera to the computer

Step 2: Download and install the free demo version of Remo Recover (Windows) on the computer to which the memory card is connected

Step 3: Run the software either by double-clicking the shortcut on the desktop or using the Start Menu > Program

Step 4: Select the "Recover Photos" option from the main screen, as shown in Figure 1

Step 5: The next screen displays two options, "Recover Deleted Photos" and "Recover Lost Photos". Select "Recover Deleted Photos" as shown in Figure 2 or "Recover Lost Photos"option as shown in Figure 3, to recover deleted photos from the any drive / partition and proceed to step 6 given below

Step 6: To manually select partition / drive and perform RAW signature search select the "Recover Lost Photos" option from the screen.

Step 7: After selecting "Recover Lost Photos" option, a window displays all the logical drives (memory card is displayed as a logical drive), as shown in Figure 4

Step 8: You have to select file types based on their unique signatures, as shown in Figure 5

Step 9: Click on "Next" to start the scanning process

Step 10: Recovered RAW image files can be displayed in either "File Type View" or "Data View" mode as shown in Figure 6

Step 11: Evaluate the recovery results by using the "Preview" option, as shown in Figure 7

Step 12: "Save Recovery Session" feature helps to re-load recovered data tree from previous scan, as shown in Figure 8

Step 13: You can purchase the software, if you are satisfied with the recovery results

Step 14: Later, you can activate the software and load previously saved scanned information by using "Open Recovery Session" option to continue with the saving process, as shown in Figure 9

You can use Remo Recover (Mac), to perform Canon image recovery on Mac OS X

Note: Do not capture more photos using the digital camera memory card from which you need to recover lost / deleted RAW image files.
