After repairing my corrupted HEVC video file with Remo Video Repair software, why do I need to install the K-lite codec pack to preview the repaired video file?

In this section, we will learn what a codec is and the necessity of the K-Lite codec pack to preview HEVC video files.

What is Codec?
A codec is a computer software that encodes and decodes video or audio files. Every audio and video file rely on a codec to compress the file size and facilitate smooth playback. Codecs typically work in conjunction with system media players.

When a codec is installed on your system, it decodes your videos and music files, which are encoded with a specific codec, allowing the media player to play them. If you encounter issues while playing your videos, it's possible that one of the codecs used to play the video may have become corrupted or it could be that you don't have the correct codec installed on your computer to play the video properly.

Why do I need the K-Lite codec installed to preview HEVC video files?
HEVC is a video compression standard known for its high-quality and efficient video encoding. HEVC, also known as H.265 or MPEG-H Part 2, It provides improved video quality and higher compression efficiency compared to its predecessor, AVC (Advanced Video Coding) or H.264. While some media players have built-in support for HEVC decoding, others may require additional codecs to be installed in order to play HEVC-encoded content. HEVC (H.265) is a relatively new video codec, and not all media players have native support for it. For playing H.264 or H.265 (HEVC) files, we need to install an additional codec on the computer. For this purpose, we have a freeware codec pack called K-Lite Codec.
