We research technology challenges that you may face. Today, we are going to discuss filtering out files using TAGs. Tags are essential when performing advanced searches to identify specific files from vast data.

TAGs act as properties for certain file types, much like "Author" in documents (Word, Excel, PPT files), "Artist," "Singer," or "Album" in audio/video files, and camera models in the case of images captured.

Here is how TAGs are displayed on Windows Explorer. By keeping Windows Explorer in Details View, you can enable multiple properties to display, such as Author, Album, Artist, Camera Maker, Camera Model, etc. You can manually add TAGs for limited file types like JPEG under the Details tab of properties by right-clicking on the file. Finding the right file when you need it can be challenging if you have many files stored on your computer or backup storage. Imagine trying to locate files when your PC is not booting, the drive is corrupted, or not even listed in the Explorer. TAGs play a crucial role in simplifying the data recovery process in such situations.

The Data Recovery Efficiency Test Scenario:

To demonstrate the significance of TAGs, we conducted a data recovery efficiency test. Four individuals, each with a Kingston USB drive, were tasked with finding specific files after formatting the 32 GB Kingston USB Drive. The objective was to locate photos shot on a Canon camera, find a video file shot on a Sony camera, and search for a Word document (with the author's name provided) using different data recovery software.

Participant C (EaseUS Data Recovery):

  • Time Taken for Scan: 7 minutes
  • TAGs Filter: Available
  • Dynamic Tree While Scanning: Yes
  • Files Found: Photos from Canon camera, video file, Word document by the specified author
  • Time Taken to Find Files: 2 minutes

Participant D (Disk Drill):

  • Time Taken for Scan: 6 minutes
  • TAGs Filter: Not Available
  • Dynamic Tree While Scanning: No
  • Files Found: Photos from Canon camera, video file, Word document by manually searching
  • Time Taken to Find Files: 10 minutes

While the time taken for data recovery was similar among all participants, TAGs filters in Remo Recover 6.0, and EaseUS Data Recovery significantly streamlined the process. These participants easily located specific files using TAGs, demonstrating the efficiency and convenience TAGs bring to data recovery.
